CMS Energy Marketing, Services & Trading, also known as CMS MS&T markets natural gas, electricity, coal, crude oil and petrochemical-based liquids in large quantities to major industrial and commercial companies. We also help companies that use large amounts of energy find the energy they need, in the amounts they need, and at the best possible price. In addition, we help companies save money on their energy costs by showing them how to use their energy more economically, upgrade their systems, and monitor their energy costs. Our services are concentrated in the U.S.′ we have offices in 35 states.
CMS Oil and Gas, one of the 50 largest independent oil and gas companies in the U.S finds new supplies of oil and natural gas to replace all the oil and gas people use every day so we′ll have plenty of energy in the future. Our natural gas activities are concentrated in North America. We focus our oil activities on Africa and South America. Right now we have 3,445 wells that produced 12.1 million barrels of oil equivalent and 26.5 billion cubic feet of gas last year. In 1999, we produced natural gas, oil and condensate totaling 12 million barrels of oil equivalent. Proved reserves total 248 million barrels of oil equivalent.
CMS Generation, the 10th-largest U.S.-based company developing and operating independent power projects around the world owns interests in independent power plants totaling more than 9,742 gross megawatts. Plants totaling more than 4,621 megawatts are under construction. Our plants are operating in 10 countries, including the United States, India, Morocco, Argentina, Chile and Thailand. Three of our plants-in North Africa and Australia-are the largest independent power plants on their continents. In the United Arab Emirates, we are building and will operate the first major energy privatization project in that country. It′s called Al Taweelah A-2, and it includes a power plant that will generate 710 megawatts and a water desalinization plant that will produce 50 million imperial gallons (that′s over 60 million U.S. gallons) of drinking water per day from sea water.
Consumers Energy, the 5th-largest investor-owned electric and natural gas company in the United States. Our electric business is the nation′s 12-largest. In 1999 we delivered 41 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. And we build and maintain the 68,000 miles of electric lines that bring this power to 1.7 million customers in Michigan′s Lower Peninsula who depend on us to deliver the electricity they need to power their home appliances, cook their food, and run their businesses.

History
In Abu Dhabi CMS Energy got in 1999 the first Privatized Power & Water Desalination plant for Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA). The plant started supplying 750 MW and 50 MGWD in August 2001. CMS Energy are partners with ADWEA by 40% share. They manage the plant for 20 years. CMS Energy signed the second biggest power plant to produce 1500 MW and 100 MGWD for ADWEA at Shuweihat. CMS Energy is 20%, International Power of U.K. , 20% and ADWEA 60% share.
CMS Energy, a U.S. power provider has been awarded a $1.6 billion contract with the UK′s International Power Plc., to build a Power and Water Desalination Plant in the U.A.E. The state-controlled Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority will own the remaining 60 percent.
The plant will have a capacity of 1,500 megawatts and 100 million gallons a day of water. They will be responsible for constructing and operating the power generation and water desalination station, 156 miles (250 kilometers) west of Abu Dhabi city for 20 years.
This is the second project for CMS Energy in the UAE. They built the $750 million Taweelah A-2, Abu Dhabi′s first independent water & power project. The plant is to deliver 750 MW and 50 MGWD. It was a joint venture on a build-own-operate basis between CMS Energy (40 percent) and Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (60 percent).
CMS Energy has become an active player in Gulf markets. CMS Energy has annual sales of about $6 billion and assets of about $14 billion worldwide.
