The main objective of this department is to investigate and analyze current events in the local, regional, and international arenas. Issues with political and/or military implications for the national security of the UAE are given special emphasis. In order to provide recommendations on the best approach to deal with current topics, the department provides policy makers with relevant proposals, in addition to studies and research. In order to achieve this overall objective, the department executes a number of missions:

Monitoring and analyzing changes that might impact national security.
Preparing a list of issues of special interest to the UAE.
Observing major actors in the international arena, such as the US, the EU, Russia, China, and Japan.
Studying significant trends, such as ethnic tensions and religious extremism, in neighboring countries.
Exploring avenues to enhance defense and security cooperation among GCC member states, other Arab states, and additional countries in order to specify their implications on UAE defense policy.
