General Description
Mechanical engineers (ME′s) work in all sectors of industry and government. Many mechanical engineers are concerned with cooling and air conditioning systems design. Others work in the manufacturing industries. Still others are responsible for the mechanical systems that are the heart of modern power stations. Still other mechanical engineers work with aircraft design and maintenance, transportation systems, engines, structural systems, and the development of machinery of different types.

The mechanical engineer is well grounded in the basics of thermal and mechanical systems. Furthermore, he or she understands the application of the sciences and the art of engineering to the solution of mankind′s problems. Most mechanical engineers go to work after receiving a bachelor of science degree. However, an increasingly large number continue working toward their graduate degrees.
