The Department aims to :
Develop understanding of the importance of the development of the family as a productive unit in the community, and ways to improve family living conditions.
Develop understanding of the role of housewives and mothers.
Develop skills needed for care of family members in the different stages of life.
Introduce the scientific basis of home economics and skills needed to manage family life.
Develop skills in the areas of fashion design, gardening and handicraft, and maintenance of home appliances.
Prepare a well-educated generation trained in various aspects of family sciences to meet the needs of the society in this area, for teachers, specialists in family development and family affairs, and researchers and trainers.
