General Description
The Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority has, since its establishment 40 years ago, developed into holding the national leading role in the nuclear research and development. The first research earctor (ET-RR-1), commissioned in 1961, is t he first in the Africa Continent (excluding South Africa). The AEA has, from the mid-fifties endeavored to train scientists in the topmost universities and research institutes in the world and saved on effort in acquiring R&D facilities in basic and applied nuclear research.
At present more than 850 highly qualified academic scientists in various fields of nuclear science and engineering, supported by about 650 technical staff, represent the driving force for R&D in the nuclear science and technology.
History
The Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (AEA) was established in 1955, its mandate being to enable the country of the efficient utilization of the peaceful applications of nuclear energy.
