General Description
The Egyptian green party was created based on the principles of the right of citizens to live in a clean and appropriate environment. Claiming “the protection of the environment from the people and protecting the people from the environment” as its main objective, its slogan is “God, man and environment”.
At its launch, the party advocated non-political objectives, the party assured later its interest for political and social issues such as overcrowdness. For the Green’s, the demographic problem in Egypt lead to social and political ones such as violence. In this way, its goal is to raise the awareness of citizens to “affirm their rights to first-hand information, to live in a clean environment, to participate in decision-making and to be able to maintain resources in a more sustainable manner”.
In 1998, the party led one of its most important legal battles, ensuring the full and active implantation of the Environment law, passed in 1994.
