Major Political Party in Algeria, FIS was created in 1989. It won the local elections of 1990, and has shown success in the results of the 1991 parliamentary elections. The party has been forbidden in 1992. The founders and leaders of the party, Abbassi madani and Ali Belhaj, were emprisonned for 12 years. They were freed July 2, 2003.
