General Description
The Government of Lebanon is proceeding with the privatization of some major economic sectors that include and are not limited to telecommunications, electricity, water, gas exploration and the ports. For the successful achievement of privatization transactions, and pursuant to law 228, the Higher Council for Privatization (HCP) has been established as an authority in charge of planning and implementing the privatization program and its relevant operations. Discretionary power over the broad parameters of the privatization program is allocated between the Council of Ministers and the HCP in a way that allows the approval of the Council of Ministers on all matters before their implementation by the HCP.
