Fields of CSCís Activities:
CSCís programs and activities will be focused in three main fields. Each field can be developed into an integrated unit in the framework of the center to deepen professionalism in the centerís work.
Information and Referral:
CSCís work in this field represents the first line of contact with the community, where clients are received, listened to, and problems are assessed. Such reception will result in giving the needed treatment in the center, referring the clients to the proper institution/s that can offer the treatment, or both. This open door method aims at enhancing the clients confidence and facilitating their roles as active citizens in seeking their rights and fulfilling their obligations towards their society.
The centerís activities in this field will focus on offering services in the area of social work using modern professional methods; individual guidance, group work, and community organization. Activities and programs will fall in one or more of the following categories:
a) Educational and awareness raising programs in human rights in general and the rights of disadvantaged groups. Special attention will be given to professionalise and institutionalize volunteerism making use of the rich heritage of the Palestinians in this field.
b) Programs and activities of service offering - organizational nature for individuals and groups on the basis of empowerment and participation.
c) Assessing community needs and the efficiency of the available institutions in responding to these needs.
The centerís activities in this field will focus on offering services in the area of low-cost housing for low-income people. Activities and programs will fall in one or more of the following categories:
a) Housing clinic that offers consultation on house improvement for individual families.
b) Organizing efforts for renovating buildings and public facilities for public use.
c) Raising awareness for environmental issues in architecture and housing.
Advisory Professional Committee
The center is guided by an advisory committee whose members reflect the professional expertise of the university faculty in the fields of sociology and social work, architecture, education, law, and public relations.
The center is led by a steering committee. Members of this committee represent different community institutions, governmental and non-governmental, An-Najah University, volunteers in the center, and residents of the targeted community.
As a result of the cooperation between An-Najah National University - Nablus - Palestine and McGill University - Montreal - Canada, Community Service Center (CSC) was established in 1999 to offer its services in the fields of Social Work and Low- Cost Housing.
